Remote ICQ

What is it?

This is my Remote ICQ page. 'Remote ICQ' is a term defined by myself. It is a textversion (micq for Linux) of Mirabilis ICQ.
That means that once you've signed up you'll be able to login to a remote ICQ via telnet. This is quite usefull on a computer that is not yours but has internet access (like computers in highschools or libraries for example).

Warning: This service is in an early develpment status yet. Availability may not be guaranteed at all times.

How does it work?

1) Signup: At first, you have to sign up for this service. It is free to sign up, but don't sign up more than once. Thank you.
2)Connect to the Server: After you have received your login information via email, you can connect to the server via telnet. Probably the easiest way to do so (especially if you're sitting at a restricted school computer) is to open your browser and enter (into the Location/URL box):
telnet://jd.dyn.ez-ip.net
(or just click on this link now.)
A seperate window should appear now. You should be connected to the server now. You will receive an errormessage if my server isn't online. I'll try to stay online weekdays during school times and I certainly will be online some other times, but I cant guarantee it as I don't have an extra machine left over for the server (I'd be glad about a little donation ;-) ).
Note: My forwarder (the "jd.ddns.org" part) might be down while my server is up (The ddns itself is a free service with no guarantees either). In that case, you might wanna try and get my IP adress (these 4 block numbers, e.g. 204.221.22.123). Ask me if you can, but I soon will provide an easier solution.
3)Login: After you are sucessfully connected following message should appear on you telnet screen:
Connected to jd.dyn.ez-ip.net
Escape character is '^]'.

Red Hat Linux release 5.2 (Apollo)
Kernel 2.2.1 on an i586
login:

Now type in your login name (sent to you by email). Take care, on this server everything is case sensitive (all different: abc, ABC, aBc etc...), so are your login and password. After you have entered your login, you'll be asked for you password. Enter it! It won't be shown on the screen, so don't worry if you don't even see these stars (***). Now mICQ should be starting.
3) In mICQ: Once you have mICQ started, you'll be prompted to enter a UIN (=User Identification Number, your ICQ#). you can either create a new account, or use your existing ICQ account, so you buddies won't have to deal with 2 seperate instances of you. Just follow the instructions on the screen closely, I don't have time (now) to esplain every single step, sorry.
4) Exit:
As soon as mICQ get's terminated - either by crashing what I hope won't occur or by typing 'q' - you will be logged out.

Policy

First of all, I disclaim any liability caused by anything of this service. Using it is (like almost everything) on your own risk. Once you received your logon information, it has to be kept safe and should not be shown to others. If there is any doubt whether your information is still safe, your account might be deleted immediately without any warnings.
This service will be free as long as my personal circumstances allow me to maintain it, so don't be spamming around...

My Equipment

This whole project is done using exclusively Linux (The server, dns forwarding (dyndns), homepage-design (doesn't make Linux look good yet, but I didn't really spend much time doing the homepage), etc...). Linux forever ;-). I'm running this service on my laptop, so I can't run it 24/7. If somebpdy has a computer left over (486 or better, at least 16 megs of RAM, harddrive at least 200MB), I'll be glad to try and set this service up on that. Just email me.
