Tech-Page??? What tha sh***. Well, sounds more important than it really is. I started independant computer studies in the second semester of my highschool year in the USA (read about that here). That gave me plenty of time to experiment with stuff on the computer. Those results - and others that I did before - are shown here.
Please excuse the spartanity of this page - I haven't hat time left over to fill it up with nice graphics. - and it looks more serious without... Jusk kidding.
My system | Just a shor description of the hard- and software I am working with. |
rICQ | A combination of C-programs and unix accounts to provide a free telnet version of ICQ. |
C/C++ Compiler | The aim of this project was to find a good free C/C++ Compiler for Windows95 and to get it set up. |
Prime Number Filter | Get into C and CGI programming doing a (rather stupid) prime number filter. |
Hardware:Software:
- KIWI OpenNote 281, 800*600 DTNS-Display
- AMD K6-2 (3DNow!), 266Mhz, 512Kb Cache
- 32MB EDO Ram
- 2.1GB Harddrive, 20x CDROM, 3.5" DiskDrive
Well, there's not much more to say about it. I usually log into my Laptop via Telnet, when I am in school, because all schoolcomputers are Windows95 (puke!).
- Windows - Was shit (Win95,NT4.0), is shit (Win98) and will be shit forever (Win2000/NT5.0). In other words, I try to avoid using it.
- Linux - it just tastes better... Kernel 2.2.1, GNU C 2.8
- KDE 1.1 - combines the interface of Win with the stability of Linux.
- JED - A very nice but still very small (=fast) texteditor.
Result: A Webpage displaying the "rICQ" product and providing basic setup instructions.
Purpose: There is a very nice communication tool out there, called ICQ by Mirabilis. It enables the user to send instant messages, chat, do filetransfers etc. to other ppl. The advantage: you see directly when some of you friends is online, do you can have a talk without waiting for the answer for hours or days.
A disadvantage of ICQ is, that you have to install it and set it up on your local computer. Doesn't sound like a disadvantage? Well, it sure is if you get internet acess in school, because Windows is restricted there.
Description: My Idea was to set my local machine up as a server. You could then acess a text-mode ICQ by telnet. I wrote a program that is used as the shell for my 'clients', so they have easy access and don't mess up my computer. More Information might be added soon, have a look at the Result too.
